about wendy houses
A wendy house is traditionally a wooden framed structure, with no fixed foundations, which is clad in overlapping planks of timber. Due to cost contraints the cladding is almost exclusively done in treated pine.
Traditional wendy houses are an excellent options whether you are using your wendy house as a garden shed, kids play house, or are planning to live in it:
- Easy to maintain
- lower initial costs
- Low environmental impact
- wood is a natural insulator
- usually don't need planning permission
so you end up with a cosy building that wills suit your needs and budget, which is easy to install, requires little if any planning permission, and will last you for years.
Pine doesn't seem like a very good choice for a timber that is going to be exposed to the elements, however, modern timber treatments ensure that properly treated pine will last for many years. If it is also maintained properly you are looking at a wendy house that will last a lifetime.
The standard for wendy houses is for overlapping boards of pine, however, we can also provide units with tongue-and-grooved cladding boards, and if required, in other timbers. Although there is an extra cost associated with tongue-and-groove cladding, the final structure is going to be stronger, more weather resistant and longer lasting. Sometimes it is better to pay more up front for a structure that is going to last longer, and require less maintenence.
Our preferred roofing material is corregated zinc sheeting- it is long lasting, and perfect for the South African climate. We are also happy to accommodate any option that the client specifies.
In traditional wendy houses, window frames are usually wooden, however, we can fit aluminium frames if required.
